根據考研英語大綱要求，小作文主要考查考生進行一般性應用文寫作的能力。應用文的類型包括私人和公務信函、備忘錄、報告、通知等。其中書信類應用文是歷年考研英語考試的考查重點。而從共性上來看，大部分書信類應用文體現的交際目的是交流自己因某事物產生的某種情緒，重在闡述情緒衍生的相應行為。
一、交流欣喜或感動

例：在你的學校進一步學習對我有強大的吸引力。

例：我忍不住向你推薦這部電影。

例：我想知道我是否能擁有在貴校學習的機會。

三、交流不喜歡、厭惡
